Link back to main domain

Hi, I installed the package without problems and it works just fine. Just one thing is not clear to me:

I want to have several microsites with their own domains, that works. But when I want to link back to a page on the main domain, it just stays within the microsite's domain. Example:

on may sitehttp://www.microsite.com I have a link to

www.www.maindomain.com/index.php?cID=123...

This SHOULD resolve to

www.www.maindomain.com/mysection/mypage...

INSTEAD it resolves to

www.www.microsite.com/mysection/mypage...

which - of course - results in an "page not found" error.

What is the solution to this?

We would generally advice against having any actual content on the main site. This avoids a couple of possible problems along the way.

Linking back to the main site is generally problematic because the default behavior of the content block in c5 (and other blocks that allow HTML content) is that they replace the main domain with a string key {CCM:BASE_URL} in the database. This key is then converted back to the base URL when it's printed out on the site and of course if you're printing it out from one of the subdomains, it's replaced with that domain.

Possible ways to solve this:
- Move all content away from the main domain and just create additional mapped site under your mapped sites which serves what you currently have in the main domain (suggested).
- If this is a one time deal, you could just edit the content through some other domain and link there manually to the main domain. E.g. editing the page through microsite .com and then manually entering the link to "http:// maindomain .com" from the link adding interface.
- If none of these is possible, you could always override the core class that does this (Concrete\Core\Editor\LinkAbstractor) and modify its logic to exclude the problematic URL.

Hi,

we just have some additional microsites on our already existing main domain and I also wanted to use the global main navigation on the microsites, so it makes absolutly sense to me to use the main domain for the main content ;)

The good news: I managed to get the right links into my microsites, but in a different way from your ideas. The solution was to configure a canonical primary domain in Concrete5 (and force C5 to use it!). This works just good for our case, you may want to have a look at our main site

http://www.bikeforceberlin.com

and see that the links are correct for

http://www.cafe-racer-berlin.de/...

Cool and good to know!

I remember some client reporting back to us problems when they _were_ using the canonical URL but we solved that by forcing the "redirect back to canonical URL" option to false, no matter what is set in the c5 interface.

But very good to know it is possible to solve this problem using those, thanks!
