Is there a possibility of making it so you can define the link path manually rather than selecting a source? This would allow for the use of offsite urls and stop the problem with it setting up the path like pretty urls. If you don't have the site set up for or can't set it up for pretty urls you can't use the link capabilities and that is a big problem.
