Problems with UTF-8

Permalink Browser Info Environment
Hi,

the Add-on shows UTF-8 characters as double characters. It appears in picture descriptions or file set names.

An ü will be displayed as ü.

Can you tell me if those same picture descriptions and file set names show up correctly in the file manager itself? All this block is doing is pulling the names from the file manager so I'm not sure why this would be happening in one place and not the other -- but let me know and I can investigate more.

Thanks.

Hi,
I have looked into this problem and unfortunately I cannot figure out what is going on. I have had problems like this with other blocks as well, and sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't -- it usually has to do with the charset or collation in the MySQL database. See this link:
http://yoonkit.blogspot.com/2006/03/mysql-charset-from-latin1-to-ut...

However, I have not been able to make it work for this addon yet so that may or may not actually solve your problem. I am going to ask other people for help with this and hopefully we can figure it out.

Thanks for your patience.

I've finally figured out what the problem is and updated the addon to handle UTF-8 characters properly. Make sure your database has the utf8 charset and one of the unicode collations (utf8_general_ci or utf8_unicode_ci), update your addon, and it should work correctly.

If you still have problems with this please let me know so I can take a closer look again (but it worked in my testing on a site that didn't work before, so I'm hopeful this will clear up any issues).
