Display certain categories in Wordpress Entries

Permalink Browser Info Environment
This add-on is great, everything going well for me. I would like to add a wordpress entries block on my home page, but only displaying one category from my wordpress install.

I thought this would be possible by pointing the blog entry page tohttp://...blog/?category=3 (the blog page displaying the post category I want) but this is not selectable within the "select blog" option when adding.

Is there a way to create a wordpress entry block displaying a single chosen category?

Thanks

I almost added this feature some time ago, but I realized that it was not possible to filter by category while simultaneously allowing filtering by tag or by date. Thats when I put the feature on hold.

I might be able to add the feature, but it would have to come with a disclaimer that the supporting blocks for categories, dates and tags will not work with it. Is that alright?

Hi Elyon,

That would definitely work for me! Would this mean that it could not display categories on any pages with Wordpress Entries though?

For example, on my homepage I am displaying 5 excerpts from my blog. I would like to only display the category "video blog". I do not use tags, categories or dates on this page.

On my actual blog, I do display categories etc. I am assuming that this could no longer be used over the whole site?

One last question if I may, with posts that have embedded video in them, is there any way to display the video thumbnails in the excerpts with the Wordpress add-on?

Great add-on by the way, I'm sure I'll be using it over multiple sites.

Thanks again,

If I add the feature, it will absolutely work for you.

It will be based on a single WordPress Entries block, and will not affect your website globally. Currently, the Archives, Tags, Categories and Search blocks work in tandem with the Entries block to page and filter through your blog entries. Unfortunately, it is not possible (as far as I can tell right now) to filter based on two dimensions, like category and archives, or tag and search.

If you don't need these other blocks on your homepage, you'll be able to lock in the category just fine.

I'll try and see if I can add this feature soon

Hi!

I apologize for the delay.

I've been much busier lately than I expected, but it is no excuse for leaving you hanging. Rather than integrating this into the core of the add-on, I've whipped up a custom template you can use to "lock in" a specific category.

I've attached it to this message. You can upload it to /blocks/wordpress_entries/templates. Do NOT put this under /packages ... create your own "wordpress_entries" then "templates" directories under the "blocks" folder (which probably is empty). This will allow you to add your own template for the WordPress Entries block, without it being overwritten after updating the add-on.

You can rename the file from "test_category.php" to whatever you like... when you add a block and select "Custom Template", the templates will be displayed with capitalization and spaces, so "test_category" == "Test Category"

And lastly, swap "screencasts" in the file with either the ID number or slug name of the category you want to lock in.

(I added .txt to the file name so I could post it here. It should be a .php file, only)

Thanks! Have a great day! Let me know how this works for you
