When editing blocks, a Custom Template option of "Slides" is available.

I did originally have the free Long Story Short theme installed, which has a Custom Template 'Slides' option. But I have since uninstalled and deleted all folders for the free theme.
Is the 'Slides' Custom Template a remnant from the free theme, or does it serve a purpose in the Parallax theme?

yes, the theme installs this template and uses it automatically for any Content block you add to the page. So you don't need to select it, but it has to be there since the theme will use it automatically.
(The only situation where you need to select this template is if you ever need to use a stack and want the blocks within the stack to have animations).
