I'm utilising the Modena Masonary Blog view with the Page List block in a number of areas on my site. It's working well, and I've had to create custom views as I require custom text when someone hovers over the image.
One thing I struggled with at the start was that it wasn't filtering on the topic list that I had selected within the Page List block. Looking at the code I discovered that the topic attribute was hard coded for the Blog topics within the view. I therefore just change the attribute name in my overrides at it works fine. I was wondering if it might be a future tweak so that this amazing view can default to the topics list selected within the Page List block?
I now need to make the view look like a more standard Bootstrap Card view. Your theme is making things so much easier.

Hi David
Thanks for the helpful feedback. My challenge was that I was doing more than just two different areas, else I could have used the Portfolio and Blog. I actually have about 5 different views now as I really needed the different topic types and also the varied wording on the overlay.
I thought it worth feeding back though I appreciate what I am doing is slightly outside of how the template is setup - ie Portfolio and Blog.

There is an option to change the "read more" text, and the image overlay "Read more" text in the theme options, if you head to:
Dashboard > Modena Theme Options > Blog settings
At the bottom of the options page you should see the fields to change both these items, so you shouldn't need to create a custom view for this going forward.
Your other idea regarding the topics sounds interesting, I will have to investigate further.
Best regards
David
