Auto-nav Blog question - Slate theme

I've looked and can't find info on this issue...
I am trying to have a link in the Main menu to my Blog page without showing any child pages (blog posts)-- BUT I do want to use the "Date Navigation" block in the sidebar to show archived posts.
All the work-arounds I've found use the Exclude from Auto-nav attribute which then defeats the "Date Navigation" block in my sidebar.
Do you know of any way to accomplish this?
