Overrides and updates

Permalink Browser Info Environment
Hello!

I started developing a site using Slate almost 2 years ago, and things have really dragged on. I did an override for Slate, and made little changes here and there. Since then you have made a pretty important update to Slate, with changes in many files.

Now my client finally wants to go live. I want to provide her with the latest software, and am faced with morphing all the original changes I made to CSS, etc. into your newest version.

I have decided that this time around, I will not do an override. I will simply try to minimize the places where I make changes to the CSS files.

Would you suggest that I make all my changes in minimal dark.css, or create a separate "skin" .css based on minimaldark.css, and place all my changes there?

If you're just making CSS changes add all the new CSS to the "Add your CSS" box in the theme's Customization panel (go to Dashboard->Pages and Themes->Themes and click the Customize button next to Slate). That way on upgrades none of your CSS will be overridden.

Thanks for the quick reply!

Yes I have done structural changes as well as color and stuff - Also I had to make changes to header.php, meta.php and footer.php.
It's okay, I will keep a better record of what I did this time 'round.

Just a quick note about the css structure - it's one of the neatest I've seen - makes changing the theme easier than you would think. Thanks!
