Use of full page width image slideshows in header.

Permalink Browser Info Environment
On my site I have added full width images in the form of a slideshow block to the header. These images are 1100 x 300 px (in line with guidance). The pages displays great in Firefox, safari, and Chrome (decent browsers) but I have problems in IE. Due to the fixed width problems in IE the banner images have their sides chopped off, making the page look far from professional.

While the Slate template works a treat on mobiles (site even looks good on my old BlackBerry), the header images don't resize to fit the screen width.

Can anyone please recommend a way to produce this full width banner slideshow that will automatically resize to the page width?

I am a concrete newby but enjoying the learning process. Many thanks for your input.

Sorry for the delayed response, I have been on vacation for the holidays.
The problem lies with IE and it's non support of CSS media queries. Because of this, in IE the site becomes a 'static' width and isnt responsive. Unfortunately, there really isnt a way around this.
